Volunteer to Build Bitcoin Products for Africa
Join Bitkwa Lab: Volunteer to Build Bitcoin Products for Africa
The air in Ilorin is still electric from the just-concluded Africa Bitcoin Day Kwara, where over 200 curious minds gathered to explore the power of Bitcoin for financial freedom, innovation, and economic resilience. We witnessed high school students, university graduates, traders, and developers leaning into the Bitcoin conversation like never before.
The message was clear: Africa is ready. The people are hungry. And the future is here.
Now, it’s time to build.
Introducing Bitkwa Lab; a dedicated tech group within the Bitkwa Community where builders, developers, designers, and project leads unite to build the tools our people need to thrive in a Bitcoin-powered future.
What is Bitkwa Lab?
Bitkwa Lab is where Africa builds Bitcoin together.
This is our internal lab of developers and tech enthusiasts working to:
- Improve and upgrade the Bitkwa website and internal systems.
- Develop our tools like our Bitcoin merchants map for Africa.
- Launch our Bitcoin Diploma platform, with live learning and certification.
- Learn and explore Bitcoin development and Lightning tools from the ground up.
Bitkwa Lab is more than a tech team, it’s a movement of volunteer builders creating the digital infrastructure needed to unlock Bitcoin’s promise across the continent.
Why Are We Calling for Volunteers?
Because this mission is bigger than any one person.
To move fast and build with quality, we need developers, designers, writers, and coordinators who are passionate about Bitcoin and believe in its power for African communities.
This is your chance to build meaningful tools, contribute to real-world open-source projects, and grow your skillset while doing something that matters.
💡 At Africa Bitcoin Day, many of you asked how you can contribute beyond events. This is how.
Roles We’re Looking For

We’re currently recruiting for the following volunteer roles in Bitkwa Lab:
- Full-Stack Developer – Build and deploy complete solutions across frontend and backend.

- Backend Developer – Handle server logic, APIs, and database architecture.
- UI/UX Designer – Create accessible, clean designs that align with Bitcoin values.
- Technical Project Manager – Coordinate tasks, timelines, and dev sprints.
- Technical Writer – Document systems, write internal guides, and support dev onboarding.
What You’ll Get (Besides the Good Karma)
This is a non-paid volunteer opportunity, but you’re gaining far more than a paycheck:
- Hands-on experience working on real Bitcoin products.
- Professional portfolio pieces you can show the world.
- Mentorship from Bitcoin-savvy builders and designers.
- Community recognition for your contributions.
- Early access to new tools and education products.
- Swag drops & shoutouts (we’re watching top contributors).

- Talent pipeline into paid roles and Bitcoin companies via our upcoming hiring platform.
Who Should Apply?
- You love Bitcoin or are curious enough to learn while building.
- You’re a student, graduate, or professional with tech, design, writing, or coordination skills.
- You can spare 3–6 hours a week and work async with a focused team.
- You want to contribute to the Bitcoin movement in Africa, not just observe.
If that’s you, don’t wait.
What Happens After You Apply?
Once you fill the form, we’ll review your submission and invite selected applicants to a short onboarding session. From there, you’ll be added to the Bitkwa Lab channels, introduced to your squad, and assigned to an active project or task.
We move fast, but we also care deeply. You’ll never be building alone.
